UK updated requirements for importers, retailers and wholesalers selling and labelling wine. US released food additive permitted in feed and drinking water of animals. Canada modified the List of Permitted Colouring Agents. Australia and New Zealand consulted on a novel food ingredient.

US APHIS Unveils eFile System for Simplified Animal and Plant Health Permit Management

It enables stakeholders to easily apply for and manage permits and licenses online, while also offering real-time tracking of application status.

U.S. to Ban Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHOs) in Foods

On December 14, 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Document 2023-27506, confirming that the effective date for the direct final rule revoking the use of partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) in food is December 22, 2023, as no significant adverse comments were received during the comment period.

USDA Releases Proposed Exemptions for Plant Modified Through Genetic Engineering
Dec 08, 2023
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published an Exemption Proposal in the Federal Register, introducing five new types of genetic modifications that plants can possess. These modifications would be exempted from 7 CFR part 340 Movement of Organisms Modified or Produced Through Genetic Engineering (hereinafter "7 CFR part 340"), as they can be achieved through conventional breeding methods. Any comments can be submitted online by December 15, 2023.
