Thailand Updates the Nutrients Levels in Dietary Supplements
Jan 12, 2024
On January 5, 2024, Thai Food and Drug Administration unveiled the Ministry of Public Health Notification (No. 448) BE 2566 (2023) Re: Food supplement (No.5), which revised the nutrients levels in dietary supplements products. This notification will come into effect on July 2, 2024, with a three-year grace period given to stakeholders.

Thailand Legalizes the Use of Cannabis in Food

On the press conference held on June 8, 2022, Thailand Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) announced the legalization of planting hemp and using cannabis in food, which means that starting from June 9, 2022, planting, selling, importing, and consuming hemp and hemp products are legal in Thailand.

Thailand Prohibits the Use of CBD in Baby Food

In the first half of 2021, Thailand approved the use of non-addictive parts of cannabis and hemp plants (including hemp seed, oil and protein) in food products under certain conditions and issued corresponding product quality requirements. In July 2021, Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) unveiled notification No. 4271 and No. 4282, detailing the usage of cannabis components in food.

On Aug. 24, 2020, Poonlarp Chantawitwong, Deputy Secretary General of the Thailand Food and Drug Administration, clarified that melatonin does not belong to food according to “Food Act” B.E.2522, and it is not allowed to use melatonin as food ingredient.
