On March 25, 2024, China State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) published the Second Amendment Sheet to GB 23350-2021 Requirements of Restricting Excessive Package–Foods and Cosmetics. Major revisions include package layers, package cost, total mass of commodities and k values.
On March 28, 2024, Taiwan issued amendments to the Sanitation Standard for Contaminants and Toxins in Food. The revised articles will take effect from July 1, 2024.
On March 26, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) of China announced several detailed guidelines, encouraging food businesses to improve the labeling of production dates and shelf lives on prepackaged food products, including food additives. The announcement is expected to facilitate greater transparency for consumers in identifying the packaging and labeling information.
On March 12, 2024, China National Health Commission (NHC) released GB 2760-2024 Standard for the Use of Food Additives. This standard stands as the primary and most important legal framework for the regulation and proper use of food additives in China. It supersedes the previous GB 2760-2014 and is set to come into force on February 8, 2025.
This new standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, basic requirements, technical specifications, labeling and etc. of adhesives used in food contact materials and articles. It will enter into force on February 8, 2025.
On March 12, 2024, China's National Health Commission (NHC) and State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) jointly published 47 new national food safety standards and 6 amendment sheets to existing ones. These new standards include 1 for dairy products, 1 for food contact materials, 7 for food testing methods, 16 for microbial testing methods and 22 for food additives and nutritional fortifiers. For the six amendment sheets, they are all related to specific food additives.
On February 19, 2024, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) promulgated the revised Regulations on Nutrition Claim for Prepackaged Food Products.
On Feb 15, 2024, Macau SAR released the Food Additives Usage Standard in Food (hereafter referred to as the Standard), stipulating approved food additives, food categories permitted to be added with food additives, and maximum doses of food additives in specific food categories.
On January 31, 2024, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released the amendment to the food advertisement provisions in Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation, which increases the severity of penalties with immediate effect.
