The first method in this standard is applicable to the determination of phosphates, pyrophosphates, metaphosphates, and tripolyphosphates in food but is not suitable for the determination of hexametaphosphate in food.

The second method in this standard is applicable to the determination of various phosphates in food, expressed as phosphate (PO₄³⁻).
