The Act establishes basic requirements and regulatory frameworks for food, food additives, apparatus and containers/packages, labeling and advertising, standards for food additives, inspections, enforcement, and penalties. The Act applies to businesses engaged in the manufacture, import, processing, distribution, sale, and handling of food and related products, and sets obligations for hygiene control, safety standards, inspections, and administrative oversight to prevent food-borne hazards.
The date of June 1, 2025, reflects the enforcement of the final provisions introduced under Act No. 68 of 2022, which serves as the consolidation basis for the current version of the Act.
