On April 17, 2026, the National Health Commission (NHC) released 37 draft national food safety standards for public consultation. Regarding food contact materials, three new standards were drafted, including the Food Contact Materials and Articles Determination of 2-Methyl-1,3-butadiene and its Migration Amount.
This newly drafted standard specifies the testing methods for the determination of 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene content and its migration from food contact materials and articles. It applies to a wide range of food contact materials and articles, specifically plastics, rubber, coatings and coating materials, adhesives, as well as paper and paperboard
