Brazil has placed sustainable food systems and nutrition security at the core of its public policy agenda, driven by social inclusion goals, environmental protection, and long-term economic resilience. In recent years, sustainability-related considerations—such as responsible food packaging, waste reduction, extended producer responsibility (EPR), and circular economy principles—have increasingly been embedded into food-related policies and regulatory discussions. These developments reflect a broader effort to align food safety, consumer protection, and sustainability objectives, while also responding to international trends and trade dynamics, including evolving cooperation frameworks within MERCOSUR and with the European Union.
In this webinar, Gerardo, Chairman of the São Paulo State Council for Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security (CONSEA-SP), will provide a policy-level overview of Brazil's sustainable food policies and regulatory framework. Drawing on the experience of CONSEA-SP and broader national policy developments, the session will explore key sustainability policies affecting the food sector, emerging regulatory priorities, and future policy directions. The webinar will also discuss the implications of these sustainability-driven policies for international food businesses seeking to enter or expand in the Brazilian market, helping participants better understand regulatory expectations, compliance challenges, and alignment with Brazil's sustainability objectives.
