In order to regulate the labeling behavior of food producers and operators, strengthen the supervision and management of food labels, and ensure that consumers can clearly identify their legal rights and interests on food labels, the SAMR has drafted the Administrative Measures for Supervision of Food Labeling (Draft). The Measures is open to the public in tandem with GB 7718 for suggestions. The contents of the Measures are as follows:
Chapter 1: General Provisions
Chapter 2: General Requirements for Pre-packaged Food Labels
Chapter 3: Special Food Label Requirements
Chapter 4: Food Sale Labeling Requirements
Chapter 5: Supervision and Management
Chapter 6: Legal Responsibilities
Chapter 7: Supplementary Provisions
The Measures, once published (with a proposed two-year transition period), will repeal the Regulations on Food Labeling Management released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
