This standard applies to food,  food additives, packaging, etc., specifies product design, manufacturing conditions, and inspection results. Any food products, food additives or packaging that fail to conform to these established quality criteria are deemed substandard and are prohibited from being distributed or sold in the Japanese market.

On January 23, 2025, Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) issued an amendment, setting specifications for "Rubber" and "Amino Acid-Sugar Reaction Product" and revising the standards for "Branched Cyclodextrin".
