Recently in Japan, a test agency confirmed that a popular online human breast milk product was found to contain excessive bacterial colonies and may pose considerable health risk to babies. The product is made from a small amount of breast milk blended with water and milk powder. The fake product containsβ-lactoglobulin which is not a component of real breast milk, only half the fat and lactose content of real milk in addition to containing almost 1000 times more bacteria when compared with normal breast milk. This product puts babies at risk of septicemia and a host of bacterial infections. Some experts have suggested that the product is produced under extremely insanitary conditions. According to an official statement made by Japan’s MHLW, the relevant rules and standards for trading breast milk are absent at present, the sale of counterfeit breast milk violates Japan’s food sanitary law and should be banned”.
