Malaysia Proposes Amendments to Food Regulations 1985

Malaysia’s draft amendments would add a new permitted functional claim for Lactobacillus casei Shirota products meeting a specified viable-cell threshold. The proposal would also add 2’-fucosyllactose as an optional ingredient for infant and follow-up formulas and introduce a mandatory sugar content grading label for specified beverage packages.

On June 4, 2026, Malaysia released the "Online Public Notice No. 2/2026"1 regarding draft amendments to the Food Regulations 1985 under the Food Act 1983. The proposed changes introduce new functional claims, optional ingredients for infant formulas, and a mandatory sugar content grading labeling system for beverages. The feedback period for this public consultation draft is open until July 4, 2026.
