This standard stipulates the technical requirements, testing method, inspection rule as well as the marking, packaging, transportation, storage and guarantee period for carrageenan.
This standard is applicable to mixture of three basic types of carrageenan, namely K (Kappa), I (Iota) and λ (Lambda), which is produced by raw materials of plants such as red alga (Rhodophyceae) through extraction of water or alkaline solution. Commercial carrageenan could contain sugars which is used for standarlization, or salt which is used for special gelling or condensation, or emulgator which is brought in during dryness.
