Malaysia Updates Food Contact Material Standards with New Ceramic Ware Regulations

On January 30, 2026, the Malaysian Minister of Health published the Food (Amendment) Regulations 2026 in the Federal Government Gazette [P.U. (A) 48]. This amendment to the Food Regulations 1985 introduces significant updates to the safety standards for food contact materials, specifically establishing new definitions and migration limits for heavy metals in ceramic ware. The regulations are set to come into operation on August 1, 2026.

Switzerland Bans BPA and Other Hazardous Bisphenols in Food Contact Materials

On June 2, 2025, The Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (BLV) announced a significant amendment to its Ordinance on Materials and Articles Intended to Come into Contact with Foodstuffs (FCM Ordinance). Effective July 1, 2025, this revision prohibits the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) and other hazardous bisphenols and bisphenol derivatives in the manufacturing of varnishes and coatings for food contact materials.
