Disclosed by Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s official website, 288 batches of products were rejected by Taiwan Customs in the first half of 2022.
Non-compliance analysis by country
Most non-compliant products are from Chinese mainland (26%) and Japan (22%). Other involved places of origin include Indonesia (6%), Chile (6%), Vietnam (6%), America (5.6%), India (4.9%), etc.
Chinese mainland
Among the 76 non-compliant products, 38 (50%) are food contact materials, followed by vegetable (26%) and seed, fruit and plant & products thereof (e.g., ginseng, pickled cucumber) (13%).
Japan
Among the 62 non-compliant products, 73% are fruits (most of them are strawberries), followed by aquatic products (15%).
Indonesia
Processed aquatic products (e.g., shrimp paste) as well as seed, fruit and plant & products thereof are the major non-compliant products, both accounted for 30%.
Chile
All of the non-compliant products from Chile belong to fruit category. Among the 17 non-compliant items, cherry accounted for 59%.
Vietnam
Vegetable is the major non-compliant food category from Vietnam, which accounted for 41% of the total non-compliant products.
Non-compliance analysis by category
Among the 288 non-compliant products, most of them are fruits (25%), vegetable (17%), food contact material (FCM) (13%), seed, fruit and plant & products thereof (11%) and aquatic products (8%).
Top 5 non-compliant reasons are related to pesticide residue (52%), leaching test of FCM products (13%), heavy metal (12.5%), preservative (10%) and sweetener (5%).
