On August 6, 2024, China State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced the establishment of a new channel for submitting suggestions on new functions for health foods, as well as for consulting on and submitting related product registration applications. This initiative aims to provide policy and technical consulting services for those proposing new health food functions, support research in this field, and foster innovation within the health food industry. The deadline for public submissions is December 31, 2024.
Consultation Channels
Four consultation channels will be available: phone, in-person, mail, and email ([email protected]). SAMR recommends prioritizing mail and email for inquiries.
Submission of New Function Suggestions and Product Registration Applications
As per the Implementation Rules for Technical Evaluation of New Functions and Products for Health Foods (Trial), applicants submitting new function suggestions must provide comprehensive and clear technical evaluation materials and electronic documents as required. If simultaneously submitting a registration application for a new health food product, whether newly developed or already registered, applicants must also adhere to the relevant regulations for new product registration or functional change registration.
Materials for new function suggestions should be submitted in both "paper and electronic" formats, including one original, one copy, and one electronic version. Materials for health food product registration applications should be submitted in paper, including one original, four copies, and applicants need to finish the application via the health food registration information system simultaneously.
