On December 19, 2024, the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) announced its approval to permit the use of Vitamin K2 (as Menaquinone-7) as a permitted form of Vitamin K in food for special medical purposes (FSMP). Food ministers were notified of the approval. If no review is requested within 60 days, the Food Standards Code will be amended accordingly. On February 20, 2025, FSANZ released Amendment No. 235, which includes this amendment with immediate effect.
Major contents
Vitamin K2 (as Menaquinone-7) will be added as a permitted form of Vitamin K under the "Substances that may be added to food for special medical purposes" table in Schedule 29 Special Purpose Foods of the Food Standards Code.
