India Proposes First Alcoholic Beverage Standard

India’s Food Safety Standards Authority (FSSAI) has released the proposed “Standards for Alcoholic Beverages” which are open for public comments until 23 Dec 2015. The legal gap for effective and updated standards regulating the manufacture and circulation of alcoholic products would be filled upon the final implementation of the standards.

The Standard applies to both distilled and un-distilled alcoholic beverages including brandy, gin, whiskey, vodka, beer wine, low alcoholic beverages etc. Special chapters will be devoted to the labeling and content requirements of alcoholic products.
