Indonesia Drafts Strict Labeling Rules for Material Origin and Alcohol Content in Food and Health Supplements

New alcohol-content labeling requirements mandate prominent quantitative alcohol warnings, age/pregnancy restrictions for processed foods, and explicit alcohol percentage statements for health supplements, with limited exemptions for undetectable residual alcohol and halal-certified products.
On January 5, 2026, Indonesia BPOM released a draft regulation concerning new labeling requirements for ingredient origin and alcohol content. The proposal, which covers a wide range of products including processed food, drugs, cosmetics, and health supplements, introduces specific and mandatory labeling rules to enhance consumer transparency, allowing for more informed purchasing decisions.
