Korea Revised Food Labeling Standards

Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety revised “Food Labeling Standards”, modifying food labeling rules on manufacturing date, food additives names, alcohol content mark and others.

On the 6th of December, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of the Republic of Korea (MFDS) announced a new revision of “Food Labeling Standard”

Revised contents include: 

-Clearer definitions of manufacturing date, effective period, natural flavorings and other contents; 

-Additional regulations on non-alcoholic beverage labeling;

-Revision of the labeling specification for Flax Seeds, honey and other foodstuff;

-Revision of the alcohol content mark in alcoholic drinks; 

-Revision of requirements on Food Additive labeling such as naming, content, etc..

These new rules are applicable to manufactured, processed and imported food and also concern food manufacturing, processing and import. The new rules will come into effect on 1st of January 2018. To read the current version of “Food Labeling Standard of Korea” (Updated 2017-07-04), click here
