Taiwan Issues Draft Standard for Ingredient in Infant and Children's Foods

A mixture of 2’-Fucosyllactose and Difucosyllactose produced via genetically modified fermentation is proposed to be permitted for use in infant and follow-on formula (up to 1.6 g/L) and in milk powder or similar products for children under seven years of age (up to 1.2 g/L).

On December 16, 2025, Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration released a draft standard on the use and labeling of a food ingredient: a mixture of 2'-Fucosyllactose and Difucosyllactose. This ingredient is produced via fermentation using a genetically modified strain of Escherichia coli. The proposal outlines specific requirements for its manufacturing process, specifications, application scope, usage limits, and labeling. The draft is undergoing public consultation for 60 days following the announcement.
