Vietnam Proposes Unified Food Safety Management Reform: VFA Expected to Become the Central Coordinating Authority

1. Vietnam issued a draft plan to unify food safety management under one focal point nationwide. 2. The reform likely expands the Vietnam Food Administration instead of creating a new agency. 3. Legal amendments and more centralized compliance procedures may follow if adopted.

On May 15, 2026, Vietnam released a draft scheme to reform Vietnam's state food safety management system. The reform aims to address long-standing overlaps and inefficiencies caused by the current division of responsibilities among three ministries: the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).
