Thailand Implements New Regulation on Extraction Solvents for Food Production

MOPH Notification No. 461 establishes comprehensive requirements for extraction solvents in food production, including permitted substances, usage limits, and maximum residue levels by food category.

On August 22, 2025, Thai Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) announced preparations for the Ministry of Public Health Notification No. 461 Regarding Extraction Solvents for Use in Food Production (hereinafter MOPH Notification No. 461). This new regulation was gazetted on September 2 and became effective starting from September 3, 2025. After implementation,  MOPH Notification No. 259 on the Use of Methyl Alcohol as a Processing Aid in Certain Foods (2002) is repealed. Food manufacturers and importers will receive a two-year grace period for compliance.
