Thailand to Update Regulations for Bottled Water, Ice, and Beverages

The amendments mainly involve stricter chemical contaminant limits, optional QR code labeling to reduce plastic waste, and reclassification of carbonated water as drinking water rather than beverages. Companies will have 1-2 years to comply once the regulations are published.

On September 10, 2025, the Thai Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) announced four draft Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) Notifications that will significantly update the quality, safety, and labeling standards for drinking water, ice, natural mineral water, and certain beverages. These draft regulations are currently awaiting the signature of the Minister of Public Health before being published in the Royal Gazette to become legally effective.
