17,000 Cans of Counterfeit Infant Formula Detected in Shanghai

The latest news in China’s ongoing infant formula safety debacle is the discovery of 17,000 cans of counterfeit infant formula by China Shanghai Public Security Bureau. The counterfeits were mainly copies of the of Abbott and Beingmate brands.

The latest news in China’s ongoing infant formula safety debacle is the discovery of 17,000 cans of counterfeit infant formula by China Shanghai Public Security Bureau. The counterfeits were mainly copies of the of Abbott and Beingmate brands.

According to Article 81 of Food Safety Law, infant formula food manufacturers shall implement whole process quality control from raw material purchase to distribution of finished products, and each batch of infant formula products shall be inspected to guarantee food safety.

CFDA also requires the provider of any third party online trading platform to verify the qualification of online traders, and implement a purchase inspection record system. Joint liability is apportioned to both online traders and their third party online trading platform in case of any violations of the Food Safety Law.
