Canadian Health Food Recall due to Suspected Chloramphenicol Contamination

Recently the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) announced that a number of Canadian health food companies have agreed to implement a product recall of several types of natural health food due to possible chloramphenicol contamination (including Vega One Vanilla Chai and Vega Sport Performance Chocolate produced by Sequel Naturals Ltd.). The reason for the suspected contamination is still under investigation by Canadian authorities. China Food and Drug Administration responded to the incident by assuring Chinese consumers that the products in questions are not approved for import into China. The CFDA has however urged Chinese consumers to stay vigilant and immediately report any of these products circulating illegally in the market.
