On 14th Feb. 2018, CFDA released a notice on standardizing the labelling of health food with function claims, which states that any health food that didn’t undergo human clinical trials should add the words“本品经动物实验评价” ("Safety tested on animals”) before the health claims on the label instructions.
Previously approved health food enterprises should reprint the label according to the aforementioned rules. By the end of 2020, all health food labeling instructions need to conform to new requirements and enterprises failing to do so will be investigated and punished according to the provisions of the "Food Safety Law" starting on Jan 1st 2021.
Besides, detailed technology and marking requirements shall be defined separately for health food undergo human clinical trials.
On the same day, CFDA also stated the extension of the registration application for Health Foods, stating that health food registrants can apply for renewal within the validity period of a health food registration certificate. If no registration renewal application is made after the registration certificate has expired, the registration certificate will be canceled.
From July 1, 2017 to 14th Feb. 2018, due to the implementation of the “Administrative Measures for Registration and Filing of Health Foods”, all registrants whose registration renewal was not accepted and whose registration certificate expiration doesn’t exceed 6 months can apply for renewal of registration before 31st Mar. 2018.
Both notices came into force on the day of their release.
