China Customs Rejected 301 Batches of Imported Food in August 2024

On September 20, 2024, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of non-compliant food products in August 2024. A total of 301 batches of imported food from 35 countries/regions were rejected.

Most non-compliant imported food in August came from Ecuador (16.6%, all aquatic products), followed by Australia (15.6%, mostly beef) and Japan (12.3%, mostly snacks). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:

  • Incompliance with food national standards (29.2%)

  • Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (28.6%)

  • Unqualified labeling (14.0%)

  • Lack of required documents or evidential materials (8.3%)

  • Issues regarding overseas manufacturer registration (5.6%)

1. Dairy product 

In August, six batches of dairy products were rejected by China customs. Product details and reasons for their rejections are as follows:

2. Frozen fruit 

One batch of frozen durian from Malaysia was rejected for the storage temperature does not meet the national food safety standard. Notably, in August, China updated the "National Food Catalogues of Traditional Trade & Meet the Requirements of Export to China", lifting quarantine approval for imported frozen fruits. However, it is still necessary to comply with relevant product quality and safety standards like CAC/RCP 8-1976 Code of Practice for the Processing and Handling of Quick Frozen Foods.
