China Customs Rejected 471 Batches of Imported Food in September 2024

On October 24, 2024, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of non-compliant food products in September 2024. A total of 471 batches of imported food from 36 countries/regions were rejected.

Most non-compliant imported food in September came from the U.S. (14.6%, mostly beer products), followed by South Korea (13.0%, mostly beverages), Ecuador (7.4%, all aquatic products) and Taiwan, China (7.4%, mostly snacks). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:

  • Incompliance with food national standards (31.6%)

  • Unqualified labeling (30.1%)

  • Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (19.3%)

  • Detection of animal epidemic diseases (5.3%)

  • Unqualified packaging (4.0%)

Noteworthy Products 

1. Infant formula 

Four batches of infant formula and follow-up formula products from France were rejected for unqualified packaging.

2. Baby food 

Three batches of complementary baby foods failed customs clearance. Among them, two batches were imported from Taiwan, China, and one was from Thailand. All were rejected for not meeting the requirements stated in national food safety standards.
