On Feb. 13, 2017, it was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of China (MOA) in “Monthly Analysis of the Situation of Agricultural Product Demand and Supply (Jan. 2017)” that the total import volume of dairy products in 2016 was 1,955,600 tons, representing an increase of 21.4% compared to 2015.

Growth in yogurt and liquid milk imports
Import volume of liquid milk experienced an impressive 104.3% increase compared to 2015. According to Euromonitor, the Chinese yogurt market increased from RMB 45 billion in 2012 to 82.4 billion in 2015, almost doubling over the last three years. It is estimated that the yogurt market will reach RMB 160.7 billion by 2020.
The liquid milk market has also experienced impressive growth. It is reported that in 2016 the import volume of liquid milk doubled compared to 2014, stimulated by an increase in demand from consumers in China’s 3rd and 4th tier cities.
