China to Delay Requirement for Food Importers to Affix Food Certificates to All Consignments

AQSIQ will impose a transitional period of 2 years before the full implementation of the “Measures for the Administration of Certificates Attached to Foods Exported to China”.

On 22nd September 2017, the Delegation of People’s Republic of China released a communication to WTO’s Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade outlining that in consideration of comments/feedback received from relevant stakeholders during the public consultation period of the exposure draft of “Measures for the Administration of Certificates Attached to Foods Exported to China (Draft)” the country will offer a transitional period lasting from October 1st 2017 to 30th of September 2019 during which requirements will not be mandatory.

The grace period was already expected (see previous news), when AQSIQ notified WTO of the aforementioned “Measures”. We remind our readers that this new provision stipulates that all foods exported to China should be attached with comprehensive certifications issued by the competent authorities in the country of origin.
