China Ended Double Investigations into EU Wines

On 24 Mar 2014, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced to end immediately its anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against wines imported from EU countries.

The investigations were launched on 1-Jul-2013 and were planned for a year-long investigating period till 1-Jul-2014. (See Chemlinked News 5-Jul-2013) MOFCOM has carried out investigations into the existence and margin of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy cases respectively as well as related impairment to domestic industry since last year.

The decision of an advanced close was made following the application submitted by China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA), who was also the original petitioner of the investigations.

The announcement was made in time coincidence with China’s President Xi Jinping’s first official trip to Europe. It was an uplifting news to EU exporters who targeted more business at the promising market year by year. Besides, the news also removed another obstacle in terms of Chinese’s consumers thirst for good wines.
