China Food Importation: Imported Wines Detected with Excessive Iron

Earlier this month, eight batches of imported wines were successively rejected at Shenzhen port due to the detection of excessive amounts of iron. All the products which failed Shenzhen CIQ inspection have been returned.

It is not the first time this year that excessive iron has been detected in imported wines. Some French wines, failing to meet the MRL of 6mg/L for iron in wines, were rejected back in January. The first four months have seen strong growth in imported wines at Yantian Port and Futian Free Trade Zone. As a consequence, Shenzhen CIQ has tightened the inspections on imported wines particularly the assessment of heavy metal, dry extract and food additives.
