Recently, China Statistics Information Service Center (CSISC) released a research report detailing H1 sales data and consumer feedback from purchases of foreign infant formula brands through online sales channels in China. The top brands are: Aptamil, Pronuben, Ballamy, Dumex, Holle, Wyeth, Cowala, Karicare, Carrickmore, Laitnacre, Murray Goulburn, Friso, MeadJohnson, Neocate, Nouriz, Nutrilon, Nestlé, Adimil, Topfer and Abbott.
According to the report among the surveyed brands Mead Johnson and Friso performed the best in the first half of 2015 in term of consumer feedback on quality and the overall impression consumers have on the integrity and reputation of these brands. Aptamil from Germany is also very popular and ranks in the top 10. Many foreign brands have been affected by GB 13432-2013 Labelling of Prepackaged Foods for Special Dietary Uses which just came into force as of 1 Jul this year. For example, under GB 13432-2013, mandatory ingredients in stage 1 infant formula (0-6 months) should not use content and functional claims. Merchants are currently clearing stock by reducing prices.
