China Issues First batch of Registered Foods for Special Medical Purposes

2 overseas enterprises completed the registration of 3 FSMP products.

On November 21, 2017 China CFDA released the first batch of registered food for special medical purpose (FSMP). 3 imported FSMP products for infants from two overseas manufacturers were approved, which are Neocate amino acid formula powder from SHS and 2 kinds of partially-hydrolyzed lactoprotein infant formula powder from Abbott. (check the detail in our F-list)

China CFDA issued Administrative Measures for Registration of Foods for Special Medical Purpose in March, 2016 (read CL news here), which specified the requirements of FSMP product registration. In order to ensure the normal supply of FSMP, CFDA granted a grace period for registration until Jan 1, 2018 (read CL news here). Only CFDA registered FSMPs can enter the Chinese market after Jan 1, 2018.
