On October 25, 2024, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India released the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2024. Food categories covered in the amendment mainly involve dairy products, fats and oils. The amendment shall come into force on May 1, 2025, except provisions related to Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK), which shall come into force with immediate effect.

Dairy products
The amendment revises the compositional specifications of Khoa.

The amendment adds a detailed table for compositional standards of mozzarella cheese. Examples are shown as below.

Fats and oils
The amendment adds that if aerated, only nitrogen or any other inert gas shall be used for the purpose. The quantity of such gas incorporated in the interesterified vegetable fat/oil shall not exceed 12% by volume.
The amendment allows the addition of sugar, salt, liquid glucose, jaggery, honey, as well as edible oils and fats in peanut butter, with or without seed coat.
The amendment adds standards for corn oil regarding solvent extracted crude vegetable oils (not for direct human consumption).

Others
The amendment adds standards for rice flour for the preparation of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK), standards for vitamin-mineral premixes for the preparation of FRK, and detailed requirements for FRK, including labeling.
The amendment substitutes the food products “sardine oil” with “fish oil”, and specifies detailed product standards for fish oil.
The amendment adds detailed standards for dried parsley.
