India Amends Imported Organic Food Compliance Requirements

India will implement more stringent regulation on imported organic foods. The initial grace period (given to allow industry time to comply with new requirements) has been extended.

As revealed by a FSSAI notification issued on Aug. 21, 2018, India has decided to extend the grace period for use of non-detachable stickers with FSSAI’s organic logo to Dec. 31st, 2018. Foods bearing organic claims which are exported prior to Aug. 31 2018 will be subject to compliance requirement exemptions.

According to food safety and standards (organic foods) regulations, 2017, the labeling of organic foods shall convey full and accurate information on the organic status of the product.
