India’s New Revision of Food Additives Standards

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced the revision of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations

On June 30th, 2017, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in compliance with the Notification F. No.11/09/Reg/Harmoniztn/2014 (2016-09-05) announced the revision of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, taking effect on 1st of July 2017.

This revision, applicable to all foods, relates to the use of food additives in various categories of foods, setting a list of allowed food additives and their maximum limits and including vertical standards of food products.
The following categories will be temporarily excluded from the revision:
-food additive provisions listed in the “Notice Calling for suggestions, views, comments etc. from stakeholders within a period of 60 days on the draft notification related to amendment so as to include additional additives in Appendix – A (Uploaded on 2017-05-03)”
-food additive provisions listed in the standards of food products specified under Sub-Regulation 2.1.9 (Foods for infant nutrition) of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.
