On April 27, 2018, China’s Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) released Announcements No.21 and No.22, publicizing appended items and expansion in scope for items in the Catalogue of Feed Additive Varieties and in the Feed Ingredients one.
Major modifications in the two catalogues are as follows:
Catalogue of Feed Additive Varieties 2013
78 varieties of new feed additives (applicable to cat & dog) including Vitamin K1 are added to the catalogue;
Expanded the application scopes of 25 feed ingredients including methionine hydroxy analogue to cat & dog.
Catalogue of Feed Ingredients
32 varieties of feed ingredients including barley grass powder are added to the catalogue;
Revised ingredient name and feature description of “1.2.4 rice”;
Revised category name of “5. other seeds, fruits and their processed products”;
Revised ingredient name and mandatory labeling requirements of “9.6.5.gelatin” and change of category into “1.3 other feed ingredients”.
As of the date of this announcement, pet food manufacturers can purchase and use feed additives/ingredients listed in the catalogues. After May 1, 2019, any feed additive purchased and applied in pet foods must be included in the catalogues. Before that pet food manufacturers can replace these newly-added feed-grade additives with food- or drug-grade ones if feed-grade additives are not available in the market.
