On November 10, 2023, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in New Zealand issued Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds, replacing the previous version issued in July. The food notice sets new MRLs for fluoxapiprolin and amends existing MRLs for carbendazim, cyromazine, and fluralaner, which comes into force on November 13, 2023.
Some examples are listed below:
Compound Common Name | Food | Maximum Residue Limit (mg/kg) |
Fluoxapiprolin (newly added) | Potatoes Tomatoes | 0.01(*) 0.09 |
Cyromazine | Eggs Poultry meat Poultry offal Sheep edible offal Sheep fat Sheep milk | 0.2 0.05 0.05 0.3 0.3 0.01 |
Fluralaner | Sheep fat Sheep kidney Sheep liver Sheep meat | 0.01(*) 0.01(*) 0.01(*) 0.005(*) |
Notes: Asterisk (*) indicates that the maximum residue level is set at the limit of determination/analytical quantification (the lowest level that can be reliably detected).
In addition, the residue definition for carbendazim is revised to remove reference to benomyl. This adjustment is due to the fact that there are no longer any registered products containing benomyl in New Zealand, with the last registration being cancelled in 2009. Moreover, the residue definition for cyromazine is revised to remove reference to melamine. This removal will harmonize the definitions with those set by Codex.
