During a recent State Council meeting, amendments to four existing laws and the implementation of a new law have been approved and will become effective on the dates designated below.
Amended: Food Sanitation Act, Health/Functional Foods Act; Pharmaceutical Affairs Act; Act on the Control of Narcotics
New: Recovery Act on the Security Technology of Food and Pharmaceuticals
The revision of Food Sanitation Act
Starting from May 2017, food manufacturers and importers will be requested to use uniform labeling, using standardized colors and patterns and clearly labeled sodium content.
Also starting from May 2017, a hygiene grading system will be adopted to evaluate the catering service sector.
The revision of Health/Functional Foods Act
Starting from May 2016, the qualification status of recognized health food raw materials and registered health food products will be subject to review. Revision or revocation of qualifications could be imposed due to unsatisfactory evaluation results. Meanwhile, disease risk reduction claims as well as other functional raw materials stated in prime minister orders will no longer be recognized.
