South Korea Partially Revises Premarket Pesticide Residue Standards

Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) released notification No.2018-102 on Dec. 10, 2018, announcing revision to Premarket Pesticide Residue Standards. Major changes are:

  • Newly formulate residue limits for 22 pesticides, revise 22 and remove 5 (refer to annex A – premarket pesticide residue standards)

Newly setAcequinocyl, Deltamethrin, Fenazaquin, Spirodiclofen, Dichlorvos/DDVP, Azoxystrobin, Trifloxystrobin, Cyhalothrin, Acetamiprid, Azoxystrobin, Carbendazim, Etofenprox etc.
RevisedChlorpyrifos, Etoxazole, Spinetoram, Acetamiprid, Azoxystrobin, Cymoxanil, Metalaxyl, Thiamethoxam, Bifenthrin, Chlorantraniliprole etc.
RemovedParathion, vinclozolin, endosulfan, EPN, benzene fluorine sulfanilamide
  • Newly formulate decay constants for 22 pesticides, revise 10 and remove 5 (refer to annex B – standards for pesticide residue decay constant)

*Note: Premarket Pesticide Residue Standards are different from Positive List System. The former regulate pesticide residue in agri-food during production while the latter regulate it during circulation.
