On Jun 1st, China GAC released the list of non-compliant food products in April, 2020. [1] A total of 163 batches of food from 28 different countries and regions were rejected.
Origin
42 batches (25.7% of total rejections) of rejected imported food products originated from Vietnam, half of them were fresh chili. This number is five times higher than that of March.
Vietnam fruits and vegetables exports in April increased by 7.9% compared with that of March.[2] This may be the reason for the rapidly growing number of rejected food from Vietnam.
Category
Aquaculture products, fruits and nuts, vegetables were the major categories of rejected foods, which accounted for 19.6% (aquaculture), 14.1% (fruits and nuts), and 12.8% (vegetables) of all rejected food in April. Three batches of milk powder (1 whole milk powder, 1 skimmed milk powder and 1 whole sheep powder) from New Zealand were rejected for failing sensory testing and for use of unqualified packaging.
Reasons for Rejection
Two major reasons for rejection in April were:
Unqualified Labeling (25.7%)
Animal epidemic disease detected (13.4%)
Other reasons include lack of required documentation and an overuse of food additives, etc.
