China Imports: Increasing Failure Ratio of Imported Food Contact Products

According to the white paper of “2015 China Imported Food Contact Product Quality Status” released by AQSIQ on May 17, 2016, 8,331 batches of imported food contact products failed CIQ quarantine and inspection in 2015 with a failure percentage high of 7.71%, the highest seen in five years.

NHFPC Approves 23 New Varieties of Food-related Products

The 23 new varieties of food related products include 15 new food contact additives, 2 food contact additives that are now subject to extended usage scopes or permitted usage levels as well as 6 new food contact resins. NHFPC specifies their product names, CAS No., application scopes, maximum levels, specific migration limit (SML), and maximum permitted quantity (QM) and other additional requirements.

1. NHFPC is cleaning up all national standards relating to food contact materials. More elementary or important standards are being drafted or revised. 2. The amendment of GB 9685-2008, which includes 959 additives for use in FCMs is drawing to a close. The number of additives will be expanded from 959 to 1297.
