AQSIQ Blacklists 31 Food Importers

The implementation of the Detailed Rules for the Administration of Bad Records of Imported Foods (AQSIQ Order No.43-2014) began on 1 Jul 2014 (see CL Food News on 16 Sep 2014). On Dec 30th AQSIQ published the first blacklist of 31 companies that imported non-compliant food products to China, including 13 importers, 9 overseas food manufacturers and 9 foreign exporters. The major consequences of being blacklisted is official receipt of a risk warning from AQSIQ, financial loss due to goods being rejected or destroyed by local CIQs, reputation loss due to the public announcement of the bad record information and requirements to conduct further product testing to verify the compliance of subsequent exports. According to AQSIQ, the identification of a substandard specific item is the main problem. Unqualified foods include tea, chocolates, instant noodles, ice cream and beverages.
