Australia and New Zealand Permit 3 Processing Aids

On September 1, 2023, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) released a gazette notice announcing to add three new processing aids to Schedule 18 Processing aids in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, with immediate effect. The table below provides the details.

Substances

Technological purpose and food

Maximum permitted level (mg/kg)

α-Arabinofuranosidase (EC 3.2.1.55) sourced from Trichoderma reesei containing the α-arabinofuranosidase gene from Talaromyces pinophilus

For use in:

(a) grain processing;

(b) the production of potable alcohol.

GMP

Carboxypeptidase (EC 3.4.16.6) sourced from Aspergillus oryzae containing the carboxypeptidase gene from Aspergillus oryzae

For use in

(a)  brewing;

(b) the manufacture of bakery products;

(c) the manufacture and/or processing of the following types of food:

    (i) flavourings;  

    (ii) proteins;

    (iii) yeast.

 

GMP

Endo-1,4-beta-xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8) sourced from Trichoderma reesei containing the endo-1,4-beta-xylanase gene from Talaromyces leycettanus

For use in:

(a) brewing;

(b) fats and oils processing;

(c) grain processing; 

(d) the production of potable alcohol.
