California Introduces AB 2034 to Tighten Scrutiny on Food Additives and Ingredient Disclosures

California Assembly Bill 2034 would create a state-level notification and licensing system for certain food additives, and mandate disclosure of unlisted ingredients.

In February, 2026, California introduced Assembly Bill No. 2034 (AB 2034), a significant piece of legislation aimed at strengthening state-level oversight of food additives and improving ingredient transparency. If enacted, the bill would amend the California Health and Safety Code to establish a notification and licensing system for certain additives and require disclosure of previously unlisted ingredients.
