CFDA to Revise Regulation on Health Food Naming

On Jan. 23, 2014, CFDA announced the revision of both the “Regulation on Health Food Naming” and “Guidance on Health Food Naming”. The period for public consultation is open until February 10, 2014.

The “Regulation on Health Food Naming” and “Guidance on Health Food Naming“ were released by CFDA on March 15, 2013, stipulating the key regulatory principles required in the naming of health food naming in addition to specifying prohibited terminology. Recently, the state has released a series of administrative measures concerning the production, sales and publicity of health food, including Announcement to Further Regulate Health Food Supervision and Management and Crack down on Illegal Activities. 2014 is likely to bring more of the same in terms of regulatory updates.
