CFDA Further Standardizes Health Food Naming

On Aug. 25, 2015, China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) released the “Announcement on Further Standardization of Health Food Naming”, which shall be formally implemented from the day of announcement.

Health foods with names containing terminology indicative of product functions e.g “Osteogen” will not be approved by CFDA after this announcement.

For health foods that have already been registered with names indicative of specific physiological functions, applicants shall apply for a change of health food name before Dec. 31, 2015.

Health foods with a name indicative of physiological functions will be prohibited from being manufactured from May 1, 2016. Products that have already been manufactured will be allowed to be sold until the expiry date.
