China AQSIQ Release Updated National Sampling of Food Contact Materials Implementation Rules

    Takehome:

    • Updated national standards will be applied in national sampling/inspection of food contact materials.

    At the end of July, China AQSIQ released 4 implementation rules on national inspection of food related products, involving plastics, paper and paperboard, as well as food machinery. Those 4 documents are applicable to related products manufactured after April 19, 2017.

    The updated national standards are the essential reference of China’s national sampling inspection system. Here is a summary of some major GB standards used during sampling:

    for Plastic product--melamine tableware and RCPP, retort pouch, retortable box:

    GB 4806.7-2016 National Food Safety Standard for Plastic Materials and Articles in Contact with Foodstuffs

    GB 4806.6-2016 National Food Safety Standard for Resins Used to Make Plastics in Contact with Foodstuffs

    GB 31604.7-2016 National Food Safety Standard Food Contact Materials and Articles Decolorizing Test

    GB 31604.8-2016 National Food Safety Standard Food Contact Materials and Articles Determination of Total Amount of Migration

    for Paper and paperboard:

    GB 4806.8-2016 National Food Safety Standard Paper and Paperboard in Contact with Foodstuffs

    GB 4806.7-2016 National Food Safety Standard for Plastic Materials and Articles in Contact with Foodstuffs

    for Food machinery:

    GB 4806.9-2016 National Food Standard Metal Materials and Articles for Food Contact Use
