Last year saw a 12% increase in the value of UK manufactured food exported to China, which has made China the UK’s second most important export market outside the EU just behind the US.
Salmon, chocolate and cheese are the top three exports by value. China also has significant demands for British milk, pork and tea. Driven by these demands, food and non-alcoholic drinks exports rose by 2.6%, reaching a value of £12.8 billion. At the same time, dairy exports grew by 9% to £1.4 billion.
UK government recently appointed its first agriculture and food counselor in China, a move which has borne plenty of fruits given the healthy growth in export values.
